My grandpa slid me a paper plate
of peanut butter and pickle
sandwiches so I sassed back butter you canβt cook like Grandma
He grinned like a pack
of wolves, dumped it
in my lap
and growled butter Tough
There’s a burger joint here with a peanut butter-pickle burger…my friends love it and I think it sounds real weird. I like how you altered the nonet formatting to feature the dialogue, and I also like the audible imagery (is that a thing?) with the sliding paper plate and the growling.
‘growled’ worked perfectly after the pack of wolves metaphor. As for peanut butter and pickle; my Dad always says that peanut butter goes with anything as long as it’s the salty kind. Not sure if he’s tried this one though…
I really like the effect that indenting the “spoken words” has. Oddly, I can almost get around the idea of peanut butter and pickles. It would depend on the type of pickles though.
I nominated you for the three day, three quotes challenge. Simple rules are: post a different quote three days in a row, thank the person who nominated you, and choose three different blogs to nominate each day. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to have fun with it!

Wow, I guess that means my grandpa’s weird taste in sandwiches was ahead of the times!

It’s a weird combo. I don’t recommend it. π

I edited the quotes out and put them back in a few times. The quotes slowed the poem down.
The personalities shine through–so vivid. Love “sassed,” “growled,” “dumped,” and way you incorporate dialogue.
Love this. The title Sweet and Sour goes perfectly with the peanut butter & pickle, and you & your grandpa.

Peanut butter and mustard we had as a child. Sometimes we put a hidden dollop of horseradish in it for an unsuspecting victim. Sounds like Halloween!
I read it so fast, I almost missed the pickle, assuming it was definitely peanut butter and jelly
Nope. My grandfather had strange tastes. π
Granpa “larned” you! Peanut Butter and Pickles haha!
They’re honestly not as bad as they sound. Although, I’ve never wanted to eat one again. π
